Meet the face behind Petunia's Attic
Welcome to Petunia's Attic
I'm Janette and I am based near Preston, Lancashire with my two teenagers and hubby, Greg.
Petunia's Attic was established in the summer of 2020 and both sales and commissions are developing rapidly.
Life is full to the brim running my business alongside a full time career. For the last 13yrs we have been renovating a old Manor House in Northern France and Greg and I have loved creating our home from home there. Fortunately we will turn our hands to anything and it was whilst in France that I developed a love of old furniture. I like nothing better than spending a few hours exploring the second hand furniture depots there.
Covid and lockdown has given me more opportunities to be creative and enjoy life at a different pace. In keeping with my love of DIY I started to paint furniture, taking a tired old dresser in dark wood and stripping it back before painting and applying wax to bring it back to its former glory. Scrubbing away the years of grime, sanding back layers of aged varnish to reveal the raw beauty of a wood grain is so satisfying. The transformation of a tired old piece of furniture into something refreshed, timeless and unique is a passion.
Creating bespoke vintage furniture is definitely my therapy and there are exciting times ahead as Petunia's Attic grows into a full time venture.
Each piece of furniture I source sits in my house for a few days before the work begins. This gives me the opportunity to determine its character and feel before developing a bespoke design.
My work is undertaken with passion and enthusiasm to the highest specification. Rejuvenating an old item of furniture gives me great joy in the knowledge that it will have a new lease of life for years to come. By reloving a quality piece of furniture unnecessary waste is reduced. Like my granny used to say "they don't make things like they used to"
I will be posting details of both finished and unfinished pieces so if you have a particular design or item in mind get in touch and we can discuss opportunities to find the right piece of furniture and developing a bespoke design perfect for you.
And so what's in the name? Well Petunia is our beautiful cat. She adopted us as her forever family a few years ago and she loves to be with me when I am working on my furniture. Her presence is as therapeutic as my craft.
